Certainly a scrappy little team this year!

So, here we are, about a third of the way through the season. The Mets have been hovering below .500 for far too long. They can make it back to that point with a win tonight. I would love to see them break past that point though!

Reyes has been incredible this year. Fantastic average (over .340). Lost of steals. Lots of triples.

Wright has been injured but will hopefully be back soon.

Trade rumors have been swirling with all the money issues. Dump Reyes. Dump Wright. Dump K-Rod.

There is a certain logic to getting rid of K-Rod before he closes 55 games, but I am not ready to give up on the team yet.

As for Reyes, he brings a lot to the team and to the fans. I think he is definitely worth the investment.

Wright, I would like to see stay with the team as well. He has to get better and start showing his stuff again though.

Sweeping up

Yes, I know, I have not posted in a long time. Work, obligations, etc. I will try to get back to this regularly again.

So, the year started out dismally to say the least. We were not swept, but we did manage to only win 1 game of each of the first 3 series. Since then, we have won 3 series with two sweeps! Let's hope we can keep this rolling through our rivals, the Phillies!

Ike Davis is doing great. He has added a nice spark. Reyes is back as well and seems to be warming up too.

So, what does everyone think of the first series?

Pelfrey and Peres certainly need some toning up. Let's hope it was just because it was their first game and that they improve from here on out!

The bullpen did well. I did not have to look away in horror like last year!

It is important to take at least 2 out of 3 from our division opponents so let's go for that this weekend with the Marlins!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to a new year of baseball!

Baseball season is upon us. The Mets open on Monday in Cincinatti at 1:10PM.

But even before that, this weekend there are a pair of exhibition games against our 1986 World Series opponents, the Boston Red Sox! Lets hope for a pair of wins to lead us into winning season.

The World Baseball Classic looks like it may have upset to the rythm of some of our guys. Let's hope they can shake that off and get right into the swing of things.

Another month

I really suck at this. I keep forgetting to come back!

Well, the Mets have had their ups and downs. Wednesday was a big downer! They could have made up some serious ground and been tied with the Phillies today. They won the extra game last night at least.

Gotta keep those Brewers from overtaking us. I wish would would get the division, but we may just have to settle for the Wild Card. We must win and then the rest is in the hands of the Phillies.

Lots has happened

Lots has happened since I posted last. 10 game win streak. Taking over of first place. Losing it for a day and then getting it back.

Since so much has happened, I'll just concentrate on the latest. The Philly series.

It should have been a 2-game sweep. They should not have blown a 7-0 lead. Unfortunately, we can not totally blame the bullpen as Pedro who started off well proceeded to give up the long ball with men on base.

It was a nice late inning comeback on Wednesday though to retake the division lead.

I am looking forward to going to the game on the 6th! :D

I lost power Sunday night but I think I was glad I didn't have to sit through the final of a 4 game sweep by the last place Sand Diego Padres! Did the guys decide they didn't have to try very hard since the Padres aren't doing well? They certainly didn't need much during the first 3 games to pull out a win.

Well, they go their day off. They are back home. They better come to play and to win!!

Welcome Back Pedro

Pedro came back and was looking good. He pitched well for someone who has not pitched since the start of the season. He gave up 3 runs, but the Mets offense was able to take advantage of some of the Giants' shortcoming to give Pedro a decided lead. :D

I look forward to more quality start and a continuation of the recent surge by the Mets.

Also, I will try to post more especially since I do see that I am getting occasional hits.

Roller Coaster Ride

Man, this is not the way we want things to go. They have to get themselves together. They put on an absolutely horrible dislay today in the 2nd innning. We can play better than this. We have the talent!

It was nice to see Delgado bust 2 out of the park the other day. The next game for him was rough, but may it is a sign that he is heading back out of the tunnel.

It is still early. Let's see what we can do.

The season has begun!!! The Mets, behind Johan Santana, started the season with a win!!! The mets won 72 and Santana had 8 strikeouts. The run scored by the Marlins came off their first hit with a 2 run home run on J Wallingham.

The Mets have the best Opening Day record. :D

Well, we got him. $123 some-odd million for 6 years.

Will he be worth it? Time will tell. He certainly has the talent and the numbers. If he can bring it the Mets have a real strong chance next year. What does everyone else think?

I have been holding off to see what happens, but I figured I should comment. Johan Santana is a great pitcher. Will he continue to pitch great under the Mets, I would certainly hope so.

The big debate seems to be time. Do we want to be held down to a long term contract? Is there much difference between 5 and 6 years. I think he is 28, so we are looking at holding him until he is 34 or 35. Still not a bad age. As I ponder, I think he may very well be worth it. I am looking forward to them closing the deal. this could really give as a very strong rotation. Pitching is what I have said we have needed and this would be just the thing.

Yes, I know I have not written much this off season. Still new to blogging and I have been busy. I do want to write more about the Mets and what they can and can not do as well as support my favorite team.

Pitchers and Catchers report on February 14th. Are we going to see good, bad, ugly? Tiem will tell. It seems our team isn't much different than last year. We did lose the division by just a game, even though we had it in the bag. What will come this year?

Any resolutions the Mets should make? Any trades in particular? What do we need, where are we lacking?

Pitching should be our first priority as of this point in my mind. We need another reliable started to begin with. Let's hope Omar comes up with something good for us.

Mets make a trade

The Mets have completed a significant deal, sending outfielder Lastings Milledge to the Nationals for catcher Brian Schneider and outfielder Ryan Church, according to major-league sources.
The deal, first reported by WFAN, will reunite Mets general manager Omar Minaya with Schneider and Church, two players he had with the Expos.
Schneider, 32, will become the Mets' starting catcher, replacing Johnny Estrada, whom the team recently acquired from the Brewers for reliever Guillermo Mota.
Church, a left-handed hitter, likely will be the Mets' starting right fielder after hitting 43 doubles and 15 homers last season. Milledge, a right-handed hitter, is seven years younger than Church, and the type of athletic outfielder favored by Nationals GM Jim Bowden.
The Mets proposed sending Estrada along with Milledge to the Nationals, one source says, but the Nats apparently balked at the idea. If the Mets fail to trade Estrada in the coming weeks, they likely will decline to offer him a contract.

What do you think? Would he be useful or just whiny? I know he is a good player, but I just don;t see him fitting in on the team or doing well. I have a feeling he would sit on his rear until his contract year and then do well. He sort of did that with the Yankees.

Now Torre is not staying with the Yankees. Good? Bad? It doesn;t matter? What do you think? Who will replace him?

End of the Season

So, it really was a disappointing end to the season. I did want to get on hear and chat more about it, but things were too hectic by me. I guess it would have been depressing documenting their fall anyway.

So, what to do now? Personally, I am for getting rid of Peterson and cleaning up the pitching staff. We need some new blood. What do you think?

Doing Well

We have been doing very well recently! 8 out of the last 10 (It was 9 out of 10 before yesterday's loss) and thye have been looking good. The pitching was off yesterday, but I am hoping that they can hold their own tonight. Maine vs Smoltz. Hopefulyl Maine can return to his early season form!

The Mets now have a season high 5 game win streak. They then promptly stopped it there with a loss today. I'll take 5 in a row though. They have a day off and then head home to host Houston. I'll be there Friday night! :D

SWEEP!!!!!

For the first time in a long time the New York Mets swept the Atlanta Braves on their home turf in Atlanta. It was a nice set of victories that helped widen the gap between the Mets and the Phillies. After this labor day weekend, the Mets are 5 over the Braves (who beat the Phillies yesterday) and 7-1/2 over the Braves.

Their magic number is 21!

Tonight, they try to break their season record of consecutive wins with number 5 tonight.

Disappointing

This was a very disappointing season. Not jsut because we lost, but because it seemed like the team jsut wasn't playing with all their heart. Did they think they could roll over the Phillies?

Now we head into Atlanta. Different announcers were saying thaat if the Mets won 4 out of 7 that they would be sitting on the division. Now they need to fight to keep their lead.
We have to wake up in the Georgian sun if we are going to keep up lead!

Okay, it was a successful weekend against the Dodgers, but we lost the first against the Phillies. We need to take 2 of the next 3, or, more preferably, all 3! We do not want them gaining any in this series.

Pedroa looked good in his last rehab start. Let's get him hope in time to be eligible for the Post-Season!

Exciting and scary win!

The Mets won 7 to 6 in the bottom of the 9th after giving up the lead to San Diego in the top of the 8th. Thankfully, a few well placed hits were able to give us the 2 runs we needed!

2 more to go. Tonight it is Peavy against Lawrence. This is Lawrence's former team and it is the first time he has faced them. Let's hope he can show them his nest! 8) I want to see 5 in a row!

Cleaning Up

We swept the Nationals this weekend in a very nice way. We have now had 5 or more runs in 9 of that last 10 games! Let's keep this hitting going! The next thing to focus on is the pitching. It has gotten lax recently. Losing 10-7 is not a good thing. Next we host San Diego. Let's go for another sweep! We are do for a nice long winning streak. :)

Pedro gave up 2 unearned runs in 5 inning yesterday. He is looking good and will hopefully be up before the end of the month. He better be so that he would be eligible for the post-season!

Disappointing Loss

Okay, any loss is disappointing, but it is even more so after you had a 5-0 lead early in the game. Then a 7-4 lead. And then to give up the tying runs in the 7th and the lead runs in the 8th were unearned due to errors! This should have been a sweep. Our pitchers need to hold it together and we have to avoid those costly errors.

Onto Washington. This is another team we need to either take 2 out of 3 or sweep. Let's Do It!

Scoring again!

It is nice to see them scoring again! Their pitching has been a bit scary though. Sele got a lot of hearts racing in the 9th, but Wagner was able to clos eout the 10-8 victory. How about that though? 5 runs in the 1st and 5 runs in the 9th! Talk about bookend scoring.

We also had 5 stolen bases to add to the majors leading team total! 2 by Reyes to keep him 10 over the next contender (J. Pierre).

We won and now we go for the sweep. We haven't swept the Pirates in Pittsburgh since 9/18-9/20 in 2001.

They earned it

A good win by the Mets last night. They beat the Pirates 5-4. It would have been nice if we gave up fewer runs though. Other than the solo shot from Beltran the runs were earned through well placed hits and good base running. They had more chances that I wish they capitalized on, but it will hopefully be a godo stepping stone to get them back on track. they have the talen, they jhave to get it together if they want to have a chance in the post season!

Should been a sweep

No, I don't mean by the Marlins! We should have swept them. Wagner's blown save and another blown lead on Saturday. The looked better on Sunday and were able to keep it together. That was a fun last inning for the Mets on Sunday at least.

They need to keep that last momentum going. It is a shame they had a day off after that.

Oh well, onto Pittsburgh. Let's show them what real baseball is! :D

Belated Congrats to Glavine!!

Tom Glavine gave up 2 runs with 1 walk and 1 strikeout over 6+ innings to earn his 300th win last night. He is 1 of only 5 lefties to reach this milestone. He is tied with Grove at 300 and will likely move into 4th all-time for lefties. I believe he is the 23rd pitcher to reach this milestone, but people are welcome to leave comments telling me I am wrong. :)A big CONGRATULATIONS to him!Let's Go Mets!!

A Bummer for Glavine!

Sorry for not writing, it has been a hectic week. I was at the game on Sunday. It is a shame it had to end early since it was an exciting game to watch. Of course the Mets were up 5-0 so it had to be exciting. :D

The Mets had Glavine's #300 in their grasp and they blew it. Better base running by Delgado, more opportune hits, and a stronger bullpen was needed. Glavine pitched very well, giving up just one run in 6 innings.

He'll have to wait until Sunday. Let's work on winning the next two to take the series!

Bummer of a loss today. 8 to 4 Pirates. 5 unearned runs in the 6th. I know they were unearned, but it would have been nice if Peres could have got us out of it.

The Mets had another nice game yesterday as they beat the Pirates 6-3. Glavine looked a little rough in the first inning but managed to get out of it. He did get roughed up a bit more to give up 3 runs in the 6th.

Now we try for the sweep and our first 4-game streak in more than a month! Perez has looked good recently so let's hope he keeps it up!

Well, Maine certainly helped his own cause with his first career home run. The Mets beat the Pirates 8-4 last night at Shea.

Milledge also homered which, paired with Maine's accounted for 4 of the Mets runs.

Maine pitched well which was nice to see, although he did give up another home run which he has been in the habit of doing as of late.

Over the weekend, the Mets took 3 out of 4 from the Dodgers. That was very good to see as they are a very tough team.

Two more with the Pirates and then we host the Nationals. I'll be there for Sunday's game!

Glavine Dodged a bullet

It is always nice when your pitcher gets to bat in the first inning. It isn't so nice when he blows a nice comfortable lead. Glavine did not have very much luck on Thursday, but his team gave him the support he needed. If he could have stayed in it would have been win 299. The Mets won 13-9 in dramatic fashion with a combination of hits, aggressive running and even a few home runs.

That was game 1 of a 4 game set in LA. Peres is going against Tomko tonight. Let's see if we can guarantee at least a split tonight! :D

Jake Peavy came in with a good record and a great ERA. He was valued enough to start the All-Star game last week. He was probably one of the most dangerous pitchers we were going to see on this trip. He didn't pitch bad (Gave up 3 runs), but the Mets pressed their advantage to manufacture runs. They didn't need to rely on home runs. Stolen Bases, aggressive base running, and well-placed hits got them the runs they needed. El Duque and the bullpen kept the Padres at bay as the Mets won 7-0.

Tonight it is Maine vs Maddux. Maine had pitched fantastic in nearly all of his starts. We are coming up against an old rival in Maddux. I think Maddux is starting to show his age though. I feel we have a good chance with a win tonight!

More Errors and no hitting

Sosa did a good job only giving up 2 runs in 6 innings. The bullpen could have done better, but they also had to deal with a couple of errors as well. this is a tough series and the next one will be jsut as tough. They better get their bats going if they are going to keep their position at the top.

Thankfully the Braves lost as well. The MEts are still up by 1-1/2 games.

A Good Weekend

So, I wasn't able to get to really watch the games, but overall it was a good weekend. :D

Friday night was a bit rough with an 8 to 4 loss with Maine pitching. With a couple of errors by Gotay and the Grand Slam to lead off the game, we knew it wasn't going to be so good for the Mets. They did pull out 4 runs so it was good to see them hit and not give up.

Saturday was another nailbiter. Milledge came up with the deciding hit in the bottom of the 8th to give Glavine his 298th win!

Sunday was a good win. Reyes had a nice 2 run HR and Milledge had 2 more RBIS for a 5-2 win over the Reds. Perez had a nice start coming back from the disabled list as well.

Sosa is back tonight. Let's hope he has a nice strong start as well as we face the Padres.

Back to back HRs to start the show!

Jose Reyes and Ruben Gotay started the game with back to back homeruns. This is the first time in Mets history that a game was started by the Mets with back to back homeruns. They pulled out a win with a gutsy running play from Milledge. It should have plowed into the plate, but managed to grab the plate without being tagged. We won, and that is the important thing. :D

Rickey's Back!

So Rickey is back and Rickey is going to get these guys hitting again.

Rick Downs was let go and Rickey Henderson has returned to the Mets organization as the hitting coach. Perhaps when of the best hitters in the game and certainly of the best base runners, I do feel that he could provide the Mets the offensive spark that they need.

We shall see over the next couple of weeks if this works out. I sure hope it does!

Okay, so the AL did it again. Unfortunately, I blame Wagner for giving up those last 2 runs. Not that I blame him totally, but I wanted all the Mets to have reaaly good outings. Good job by Reyes going 3 for 4 with a run, a SB and a double! Wright had an RBI and Beltran had a triple and a run. A round of applause for them!

Another day off then it is back to the races. Let's hope they can come back with their mojo back in place!

So, it was a rough roadstand. How about that 17-inning game. The last 4 times the two teams have met and have gone 14+ inning the Astros have won, so it was nice to see that change. We beat the Cards, got swept by the Rockies and split the series with the Astros. Now we have a breather with the All-Star break (Best of luck to Reyes, Wright, Beltran and Wagner!!). Hopefully this is the break that is needed for the Mets to take a breather and get back into the game. They need to work on hitting and taking advantage of situations when they arrive.

As to the All-Star game - who else thinks that Maine certainly should have been in the game?!?!

Blog issues resolved

Well, it took some time, but I got my blog issues resolved. Apparently with the upgrade to google you need to specifically request that your old blogs get updated. It was really simple, but I just needed the time and effort to get myself to do it. So, back to the Mets!

It has been a very good year so far. They did have that hiccup in the road, but thankfully Philly and Atlanta appeared to faulter somewhat at the same time. The substantial lead that we had certainly helped as well!

So, after a rainout yesterday we face 4 (including a double-header today) at Philadelphia. I want us to take at least 3 out of 4. Sound nice? :D

Well, after being let down at that last game (and I was there for the loss!) I took a break from posting. Okay, so I took the break a while before that.

Well, it is a new year. They haven't done much for their pitching, but I think the rest of the team is in line. We shall see where that takes us. I have confidence in their pitching staff, but I do think that they could bolster it up a bit. We don't want injuries to hurt us in the playoffs again this year. Especially since we will make it there again. :D

Wild weekend

After a marathon 14 inning game the Mets came back to win after having to head to their bullpen in the 2nd inning on Saturday when Zambrano left the field with an injury. So, apparently feeling happy that they had won the series, decided to go ahead and blow the last game. :-P

Okay, so it seemed like it was doomed from the get-go with that inital balk call and then the blown call by the ump that really pissed LoDuca off.

Well, we are still 8 over the Braves. It seems we have to worry more about Philly now. They have won 8 straight and have managed to catch up 3 games during that time. Let's hope for another series win so we can stifle their surge and keep them below us!

Well, Pedro should have had win #6 under his belt. He would have been the first in the majors to reach that point. I hope Wagner doesn't become a Looper. I won't give up on him yet, but I do have some expectations of him that I would like him to live up too.

Mainly, he has to be better than Mariano this year so that the damn Yankee fans can drop this "Enter Sandman" crap! :-P

They did win, and that is the important part. Now let's take the 2-game swwep and then we can let the Pirates break out of their slump on the weekend. :-D

Well, a sweep would have been really nice, but I will certainly take the series win. Glavine and Pedro both looked good as well. Trachsel, not so good. I would have liked to have seen him pitch to Francoeur instaead of bringing Oliver in though.

2 games each hosting the Nationals and the Pirates and then we get to see Atlanta again. Let's just hope that their win doesn't give them any momementum!

We have lost 6 in a row in Atlanta heading into this year. New Year, new season. We broke up our series-winless streak in San Francisco, so now let's hope for a break to our winless streak in Atlanta.

Bannister is day-to-day after having a minor pull of his hamstring in Sunday's game. Hopefully he will be up and ready for his next start. He's rough, but he gets the outs at the right time.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and that I have good news to report come Monday (or sooner).

So, Barry Bonds still has some POP in his bat. He brought the Giants back in the 9th to put the game into extra innings. Although, the game should have been over if not for Wright's error. He doesn't have a whole lot of errors, but he has certainly been making them at the most inopportune times! Oh well. We won anyway. And it is the first series win for the Mets at AT&T ballpark since it opened 5 years ago. There is hope for us yet!

The Braves(5 back) sank to third under the Phillies (4.5 back). I am sure that they are hoping to make up some ground when we show up at there doorstep. Lets hope they lose more than they gain!

Got to meet with Bud Harrelson today

I won a chance to come into the loca radio station (WRCN) this morning for breakfast and to meet Bud Harrelson (Mets SS 65-77). He is really a great guy and quite the comedian. The staff at WRCN and it was quite the breakfast spread. There were only 10 visitors and enough food to feed everyone at the station. Hey wait, you think that that is a coincidence? :-P

Mr. Harrelson provided some great anecdotes. One that I liked referred to Nolan Ryan, or Nolie as he called him. Gil Hodges (Mgr) was bringing Ryan in to relieve with a couple of men on and 2 outs in the 9th. (I believe it was game 3 of the 69 World Series) Nolan Ryan was a young reliever who was known to be wild and walked quite a few in his earlier days, so the crowd growned. Since Ryan often put men on base before getting out the side, Hodges said, "This should be a familiar situation for you." referring to the fact the men were already on base. :-D

Bonds hits Number 710. So what?

Bonds hits a Homerun and Willie says that that is why he is walked so much. I liked Trachsel's comment much better. He pitched to Barry because he was afraid of Moises Alou! He is the one who has done damage.

Does it matter that much. Not at the moment, because the Mets won! Rubber match tonight. Let's hope for a series win. It will be their first one at AT&T park since it was built.

Day game today. I'll see if I can get in an update or two during the game.

The Barry Bonds Mystique... Bltthhh

Glavine gave in to the Barry Bonds mystique and it burned him TWICE!!!

Yes, he is a good hitter.
Yes, he is a powerful hitter.
I belive he has only 1 Home Run this year.
He has not been hitting well yet.
Why!!! At least 4 runs came because we walked Bonds to get to Alou twice and both times Alou came through.

Challenge Bonds. If you get burnt, at least you faced the challenge. It was the freaking first inning! And then again later on after Bonds had already been out on a grounder.

I just hope they don't do the same thing tonight. I know that we have a negative history in California, but we got to put that behind us and show the league that we are the same team that started 10-2!!

Disappointing weekend for the Mets

So, before Sunday, it really wasn't so bad. What really makes it disappointing is to see Zambrano pitch. I am sure he has the talent hidden in there somewhere, but he has been given a lot of rope. Too much and he will hang the Mets along with himself.

Tough series against the Giants coming up. We have not done well in San Fran over the past few years. Then again, this is a different team. Sure, they have cooled off a bit, but that certainly doesn't mean they are cold. I expect themto take 2 out of 3. What do you think?

The Mets are back on top

Not that the Mets lost their lead in the division, but they had lost their lead in the majors. The Mets are back to being the Major league leaders at 11-4. The Red Sox are right behind with 11-5.

Kaz Matsui lead off with an in-the-park Home run. Very nice indeed. He is only the 2nd player in ML history to hit a home run in his first at bat for three years in a row. Let's hope for a record next year!! He looked a lot better playing last night than he did last year. Let's hope he got what he needed to work well with the team.

Beltran is still iffy. Let's hope that nothing bad shows up in the MRI today.

Yeah!! Jose Valentin finally got a hit. It took 16 tries, but he finally reached base with a hit. Maybe he liked the feeling and can follow it up with a few more.

Mikey (Piazza) played for the Padres last night. It was very odd seeing him in the Padres uniform. Anyone wish he was still with the Mets? Maybe until that 1st inning double-play. That's the Mikey we know! :-P Just kidding. I like Mike and I hope he has a really good season, when not playing the Mets!

Tom Glavine and Tim Hudson both pitched great games.

Andruw got another Homer!!!

The worst part is that David Wright blew it! 3 Errors. 1 let in a run. Otherwise, we may have tied it in the ninth with Jose's double instead of jsut come within one! It also doesn't help that David got the last out of the game as well.

Dang it. Our first lost series. Atlanta just seems to be an enigma to us.

Anyone have an idea as to why that may be? I'm just dumb-founded.

David is still one of my favorites. We'll be back on track tomorrow. Off to San Diego where we get to face off against Mike Piazza.

Let's Go Mets. We are still in first and we will remain in first!!

Okay, so it won't be a sweep

Okay, so I got ahead of myself. It won't be a sweep. I got to say that their pitcher, Kyle Davies, put on a heck of a show. It wasn't a shut-out but is was too close.

Glavine comes on tonight for the rubber match. Let's hope that he has what he had last week!
